IN STORES TOMORROW: This Side of Heaven
Coming Jan. 6... Karen's newest stand alone novel, This Side of Heaven
This special novel was inspired by the death of Karen Kingsbury's real-life brother. She wrote it for those who finish somewhere in the middle - but who make a great difference, anyway.
In
This Side of Heaven Annie Warren always wanted the best for her son, Josh. But years of failure and bad choices create a heartbreaking distance that has grown far worse since the day Josh was hit by a drunk driver. Now on medical disability, Josh has put his life on hold for years, waiting for the insurance company to send a settlement that never seems to come.
A story of family secrets, broken relationships, and a beautiful, unforgettable love that never quite showed itself – this side of heaven.

Sometimes life is a question, you don’t want to ask
Sorting through the lonely broken pieces of your past
When you can’t find a reason, the will or the way
Every second here another breath you know you have to take
The answer’s there hiding in the lies
It’s gonna be alright
Chorus:
When the walls fall down
And you find the truth
Shadows run for cover
Light comes shinning through
Every Chance you take
Could be your saving grace
There’s a calm inside your soul that’s only found
When the walls fall down
Don’t know where you’re going but you see the other side
You’re hearts feeling something that you almost recognize
Yesterday’s gone, tomorrow’s in the wind
Here and now you know it’s where you’re second chance begins
You don’t ask why, there’s hope in your eyes
You’re ready to try
Bridge:
Tears on your face say what you can’t say
What you believe can set you free

A few weeks ago, Zondervan sent me an advance reader's copy of Karen Kingsbury's new novel, Every Now & Then. I'm a huge fan of Karen's writing and love to read, so I couldn't wait to dive into her latest book. I have to say, I was not disappointed.
The main character, Alex Brady, lost his father on September 11th, a day that many of us wish we could forget. The reality, however, is that what happened seven years ago still affects many people in our world today. They remain trapped in their pain and grief, leaving them unable to move past the devastating losses they experienced that tragic day.
In the book, Alex's mother commented that she didn't only lose a husband that day, she also lost a son. The victims of 9/11 go far beyond those who lost their lives and it's important for the rest of us to remain sensitive to those who are still struggling.
I hope this book will find its way into the hands of those needing a gentle nudge towards fully embracing their grief and finding the healing they desperately need and deserve.
It's important to note that none of Karen's books are offensive when it comes to faith. Her stories are filled with grace and are sure to be enjoyed by all readers. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to someone who is not a Christian knowing they will not only enjoy the story, but be touched by it as well.
While the story and characters are not real, there's a reason why Karen calls her writing ministry Life Changing Fiction(TM). The lessons and healing the characters find in her books are easily applied to our own personal lives.
Karen Kingsbury is an incredibly gifted author and her books are sure to be a blessing to those who invest their time and money into reading her well-written novels.
I am thoroughly impressed by the author's ability to make her characters come to life. They are so believable, they pull you into the story before you realize what's happened.
The only thing I struggled with while reading the book was the amount of detail included in the second chapter. Perhaps it was me, but I found myself on sensory overload trying to process all of the information. I think I would have preferred to have the characters introduced individually, rather than all at once.
That said, once I got past Chapter 2, I was unable to put the book down and thoroughly enjoyed reading the rest of the story. I finished the book in less than two days. :-) Need I say more?
If you're looking for a good book to cozy down with in front of a blazing fire, or perhaps something to stick in a loved one's stocking this year, I highly recommend Every Now & Then. You won't be disappointed.

Karen's Children's Book Poem About Your Children's Lasts
One afternoon Karen was watching her oldest son Tyler playing with his friends outside. It struck her that he was too tall, too old to run and jump into her arms the way he once did. Then she looked down the line to her youngest son, Austin. He was small at the time, but growing fast. She realized that with Tyler there had come a moment when he ran and jumped into her arms that way for the very last time.
As Karen has spoken around the country this past year, she has read her children's book poem about the lasts at every event. "Let Me Hold You Longer" sells out at every event, and always Karen's reader friends tell her that the book helped them love their children more.
With lighthearted illustrations and a sweet, reflective tone, best-selling author Karen Kingsbury encourages parents to savor not only their children's "firsts" - first steps and first words - but the "lasts" as well.
Karen has written these sweet words in her children's book...
Let Me Hold You Longer.
Karen and Donald Celebrate Twenty Years of Marriage

Our first home together, 20 years ago!
Donald and I celebrated twenty years of marriage this past summer, twenty years that have flown by in what has felt like so many brilliant moments.
For our anniversary, we took a few days and traveled back to Southern California, to many of the places where we hung out while we were dating.
We stayed in Santa Monica and biked along the beach path from the pier north to Will Rogers State Beach and south to Marina Del Ray and back again, and we drove to the Valley and spent a day driving down memory lane.
One of our first stops was at the house just south of Ventura Boulevard where we rented a small garage apartment when we were first married. Back then, the homeowner called the little place “the bunker”...
